Dolphin are my favorite fish in the world. I can attest to this in my post, “El Dorado”.
I was down in Key Largo for lobster mini season back in July so I had to make a point of getting out to fish for these awesome guys!
Bud N Mary’sÂ
Bud N Mary’s, the famous keys marina was my first stop. It is where I met Captain Charles Hertel to hop on his brand new Latitude Tournament Boat and hit the 600-800 foot depths.
Check out Charles’ YouTube channel to see his fishing adventures as well as see the new boat in action!
After catching our bait, we headed for the blue water. This boat ran straight through 4-6 foot seas and landed softly every time without any issue. It’s an absolute fishing machine. If you fish blue water hardcore, this is certainly a boat that you should consider buying.
Dolphin On!
The troll bite was slow so we switched to run and gun. Pitching to birds on weed lines, looking for divers and flying fish.
We had had double and even triple hook ups. Dolphin fishing is normally absolute pandemonium, it’s just about finding the fish.
We caught a lot of fish, but we had to release many shorts. The slot dolphin were all solitary on diving birds. We made our shots count!
ConclusionÂ
After a solid four hours of pitching ballyhoo, greenbacks and pinfish, the sun was setting; we turned and headed back to the marina. We totaled eight fish including a nice bull and cow.
Charles doesn’t just know how to find the fish inshore, he’ll put you on them offshore as well! I’m super glad that after meeting him in college and talking fishing for so long, that we were actually able to get out on the water together!
Also a special thanks to mate Dallas who put in the work as well.
