Every year after New Years I subsequently write a post that highlights some of the best or most memorable catches from the past year. Here’s some of my favorite catches from fishing in 2017 (hence the title)!
Note*: I haven’t written anything in a while, this is because I have been busy writing my thesis. My thesis: the Deepwater Horizon and Image Repair Theory and how it impacted inshore guides in Tampa Bay will be published in the USF Scholar Commons. Now that my thesis is complete and I only have four weeks of school left I can get back to doing some blogging. It’s crazy to think that in four weeks I’ll have a masters degree coupled with a published, peer reviewed paper. Henceforth, call me master.
I was considering the phD route, however I have decided that it is not for me. Conversely, many of my classmates did decide to further their education.
Henceforth, I hope that you enjoy this post!
Finally: Fishing in 2017!
Captain Harrison was able to put me on this nice fish, also, our good family friend Larry ended up breaking off a 100+ pounder.
We saw plenty of big tarpon that day, however we only hooked two that day.
While the only sizable poon that I caught was the one above, there were certainly plenty of juvi tarpon like the ones below.
Halftime
In addition to some good tarpon action I also got on some quality redfish this year.
While most of my quality reds were caught from a boat, I did a fair amount of wading which yielded much smaller fish, but in greater numbers. However, when wading docks you can be surprised with much larger fish. Also don’t be surprised by other fish like snook and black drum.
I was busy catching my small fish at my dock, meanwhile, Jarek pulled out a stud from his dock only a few feet away. In other words, it was awesome!
Unlike past years, I only went freshwater fishing a few times all year. However, it was a great time. I went down south and had my heart broken by peacock bass, but the Tampa largemouth were happy to indulge me.
I’m not a bog freshwater guy, however, when I do go I almost always enjoy it.
In Conclusion
There were many other awesome memories that I had fishing with friends this past year, however I just didn’t have time to include. In short, fishing in 2017 was awesome!
By the same token, I hope that 2018 will be an even better year for fishing! I am going to try to write and fish more this year, however my main focus will be fishing for a job!
For example, my dream job is working for the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, that being said, you never know what may come down the pipeline! I will definitely not leave any stone unturned. I would also love to work for other organizations like the IGFA or CCA.
If you enjoyed this blog, then check out some of my other posts like, “The Scum Pond Chronicles”. I feel that you’ll certainly love it!
I have more great content coming out soon, that being said, I urge you to stay tuned!
Until next time, Tight Lines.
Wow amazing ❤️?
